Austin Police Department Alert Network - NEW!

The Alert Network allows the Austin Police Department to instantly update you about crimes, emergencies and other important information. All Alerts are delivered via e-mail and are also available via text message on your cell phone. Additionally, possibly the biggest benefit of the network is the way it makes possible two-way communication between law enforcement and the public. As we the public learn about fugitives, missing persons and unsolved cases, we can provide anonymous tips via text message or the web directly to the agency. There is no need to sign up for alerts to text a tip.

Pool Emergencies

Non Emergencies

Non emergency incidents, such as noisy animals or kids, loud parties, vandalism noticed after the fact, etc., should be reported to 311 or 974-5743. If someone calls 311 they need to tell the operator that they want to file a report with the Police Department's Northwest District Representative. The District Representative can contact the respective parties and resolve the situation. Non emergency situations that require Police involvement should be ones that violate a city ordinance or the law.

Golf Carts

We have received recent reports of teenagers driving golf carts recklessly on the streets. We talked with the Austin Police Department Northwest District Representative and he informed us that a golf cart cannot be operated on public streets unless it meets the same safety standards and requirements for all motor vehicles. The only exception is if you are going to or from a golf course and then it can only be operated on neighborhood streets within 5 miles of the course. Kids driving golf carts is strictly illegal. If you observe this unsafe and illegal behavior please call 911 and report it immediatly.
